![]() It is, after all, fuelled by the members’ mutual interest in conspiracy theories, the New World Order and ideas of alien invasions. And on paper, Muse’s approach to Black Holes And Revelations had all the makings for an overblown affair. The West Country trio of singer/guitarist Matt Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme and drummer Dominic Howard aren’t ones to do things by halves. The boundless imagination that comes with self-reflection ![]() Listen to ‘Black Holes And Revelations’ here. The stage was set for their fourth album, Black Holes And Revelations, to go stratospheric. Their parting of ways may have hindered the band’s growth stateside, but on their third album, Absolution, Muse established themselves as a bona fide rock force throughout the rest of the world, headlining the legendary Glastonbury Festival in 2004 and setting the record for smashing the most guitars on a single tour (that’s 140 for anyone who’s counting). Though their debut album, Showbiz, received a lukewarm reception from critics and the record-buying public alike, it didn’t stop this ambitious band from taking a hugely experimental approach to its follow-up, Origin Of Symmetry, butting heads with their US label, Maverick, in the process for not being commercial enough. I do this as a fun challenge for myself.BHAR is my favourite Muse album and definitely the most listened to out of all their catalogue,so I have love for every song, but love is not equal for all of them. So,here we goġ2.Invincible:It is a controversial opinion, but I always viewed Invincible as a undercooked Uprising. It has a similar message, but is not as catchy and inspiring as its successor. But even with all that,space-y guitar on this track is great, and solo is quite sweetġ1.Soldier's Poem:As I said,I love every song on the album, but this song, while being a quiet stop before the storm, just pales in comparison with any other song here musically. However,I really like the juxtaposition between music and lyrics. It sounds like fallen soldiers singing in Purgatory, and this otherwordly calmness gives me chills.ġ0.Hoodoo:For me vocal effect kills the power that this song could have had, really. The instrumentation is great, using both Spanish guitar and piano, and the closing lyrics of this song is personally my favourite lyric by Muse ever: "And I had recurring nightmares that I was loved for who I am and missed the opportunity to be a better man".ĩ.Supermassive Black Hole:This song is a great dance tune and I respect it for that, but after a lot of listens it lost a part of its charm for me.It is a great travelling song, though, this song was made for motion after all.Ĩ.Exo-Politics:I think that this song is really underrated. It is quite simple compared to other Muse songs in terms of instrumentation, but the chorus is catchy as hell.ħ.City Of Delusion:Again, really underrated song. Those strings are pretty, and as a whole this song is amasingly put together. Also, trumpet solo)Ħ.Glorious:Yes,it is that great.I still think that keeping it out of the album was an understandable choice, because then it would have been either the closer or the opener and for me Take A Bow and Knights Of Cydonia do a greater job in that regard.Other than that,an amazing song.I would love to see it played live again someday.ĥ.Assassin:This song is Reapers before Reapers was a thing.Hard-hitting riff, punishing bass and drums, great biting lyrics-this song has it all.Assassin with the live mix of Drones Tour is the match made in heaven.Ĥ.Starlight:This song is ultimate hit song.It has a catchy chorus, great lyrics, pretty piano and synth and top-notch vocal performance.I understand why people liked it so much, this song just has all the ingredients for greatness.ģ.Take A Bow:Wow,what an opener! The musuc here is very cinematic and hypnotic, lyrics are poignant and vocals are amazing.Muse always had a talent of making spectacular opening songs, and this is no exception.Ģ.Knights Of Cydonia:You can disagree with me,but for me this is the best Muse closing song ever.On paper, this song isn't that hard really, but the atmosphere and the energy is through the roof here. This is modern rock done right-creative and new,yet still familiar.ġ.Map Of The Problematique:This is the perfect song for me.From the opening riff to the drums at the end, this song doesn't let up for a second.Cosmic and atmospheric, this song is truly epic in every sense of the world.Matt's vocals are powerful and filled with emotion. Before Muse even released an album they had already played the massive Woodstock ’99 festival and caught the attention of esteemed DJ Steve Lamacq and celebrated music newspaper NME.
